Oliver Ryder, Director of Genetics at the San Diego Zoo Institute for Conservation Research, is recognized globally for his substantive and innovative contributions to establishing and developing the fields of conservation genetics and conservation genomics. He oversees research efforts in cell culture and cryobanking, cytogenetics, population genetics, conservation breeding, evolution and systematics, and applications of genomics technologies to conservation efforts for managed and wild populations of threatened and endangered species. He has guided the development of the Frozen Zoo®, a globally significant collection of frozen cell cultures that includes more than 10,000 individual vertebrates comprising more than 1,000 species.
